It’s 2020 ya’ll!
If you didn’t know this about me, I’m a Texas boy. I grew up in a small town in Central Texas where high school football was pretty much the most important thing going on in the town. The book, then movie, then television series Friday Night Lights was pretty spot on. My wife and I loved watching the tv show because it truly reminded us of our high school days (she’s a Texan too). I would get so pumped up and was ready to go running out on the football field myself every time coach Taylor yelled out “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose”.
This phrase has really resonated with me. Coach Taylor preached this to a bunch of young high school football players, but there is much more to this simple saying.
Clear eyes – FOCUS, VISION, INTENTION
Full hearts – PASSION, DRIVE, PERSEVERANCE
Can’t lose – GRIT, COURAGE, DETERMINATION
These are the words that create a winning culture. If you have a vision that you can focus on, are passionate about, and you have the courage to never give up, you WILL become successful. And if you put yourself around a group of people that have this same attitude, it will be a force multiplier!
Let’s start with clear eyes – you must first set a vision. This could be a vision statement as described in Cameron Herold’s book Vivid Vision, or it could be writing down your Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) as described in The 4 Disciplines of Execution.
Then you must execute with a full heart because success doesn’t happen overnight. If you aren’t passionate about achieving your WIGs, you won’t make it very far. This calls for living a life with intention, which requires discipline, perseverance, and a formulated plan. The 90 Days of Intention Journal or Darren Hardy’s book The Compound Effect will help in this arena.
Lastly, you can’t lose because you won’t give up. You will get knocked down. You will have some road blocks. You will make mistakes. But if you get back up and learn from your mistakes, you’ll get there. Angela Duckworth’s book Grit is a fantastic read to help you understand this learned trait.
Oh, and if you want to put this practice on overdrive, surround yourself with a group of people that all have the same mindset; I’d recommend the RE War Room Mastermind Group.
That’s it! That’s all it takes to be successful. Easy, right?!
Let’s go make 2020 the best year ever.
Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.
